Barry's Restaurant at the Pyramids

Cairo 's latest and Egypt 's one of kind. Barry's unlike any other restaurant is unique, not only in menu, atmosphere, and décor but also in its wonderful location comprised of two floors, the restaurant is situated on the edge of a stable facing the vast desert area overlooking the pyramids.

Having an early or late dinner at Barry's is unique experience that cannot be missed, besides enjoying the fresh air and serene panoramic view of the Giza and Saqqara pyramids, one can listen and view the sound and light show at the nearest distance.

The décor represents a raw and genuine Egyptian style. From mashrabeyas to antiques, carpets, and doorknobs, the accessories reflect a warm culture oriented atmosphere. You can eat indoors on the first floor, or in the open door on the second floor. The kind of food offered is mainly oriental-from appetizers to mixed grill-and is delicious. Shisha and all sorts of beverages are also available.

Barry's offers a new taste to Egypt 's day and night scene. For coffee, lunch or dinner. Along with its amazing location and excellent hospitality, one can ultimately experience one of the world's wonders in a new, relaxing, and appetite-filled-way.

Most of us familiar with the pyramids area, and quite a few of us have trundled around to the horse and camel stables for a ride in the desert, to view the 'Wonders of the ancient world! I've ridden early to catch the sunrise and in the evening to watch the magnificent sunset against the backdrop of the pyramids; all this splendour but no real home-comforts, it you know what I mean. Yes, you can pick up a 'can' or if you book, they will barbecue for you but with the piles of poop and flies trying to get in on the act, it just doesn't get those taste buds going – although after the exercise, a nice brunch or dinner would round off a wonderful desert experience.

Until now you would either have to plump for pizza hut (no comment), or head off to one of the 5 star hotels smelling of and horses and everything else!). So when I had the opportunity to check out 'Barry's' right on the edge of the stable and desert area – off I went!

"This is going to be a home-from-home place where foreigners will come and enjoy the peace and quite after the hubbub of Cairo; we can arrange camel or horse-riding, trips around the sphinx and pyramids and then back for lunch or dinner, followed by rest and relaxation over a drink listening to mood music and ending with a folkloric floor show," explains Barry.

"We can provide set menus for tour groups or we have an a la carte menu for the casual dinner or smaller groups. Beer and wine will be served in the very near future but during the next few weeks it will be a BYO arrangement. We have lots of ideas to make our restaurant part of the whole pyramids experience which people can enjoy safely and without being hassled".

Cool Cruiser

...we celebrated a birthday at a restaurant called Barry's. Barry's restaurant was over the top. I posted about them before ( I promise not to have any affiliation with them). It is a wonderful place with the best food I experienced the entire trip ( I did sample several meats here)! It overlooks the pyramids (if you go there, check the day, it may be the same day as a light show at the pyramids), 2 birds with one stone! We had a table on the top floor. Just below was a very lively nightclub.

...you can see the sound and light show from a nearby restaurant for free (except you have to buy a drink; Barry's Oriental restaurant in the stables area). Enjoy.

Dining under the Pyramids

In Giza there is no other dining experience like dinner at Barry's Restaurant. The food is authentic middle eastern fare made fresh and exceptionally presented. The view of the giza plateau from the out door rooftop patio was like stepping into the set of Arabian Nights. Truly the highlight of my dining experience. Tell the cab driver to take you to Barry`s near where the horses stables are by the light show. You will be in heaven!
